5,000 Parents Throng School EXPO

GURGAON: The second annual schools' exhibition organized in the city on Saturday saw a footfall of over 5,000 parents on day one itself — all eager to learn about nursery admissions in the city schools.

The schools also used this opportunity to apprise parents of the admission process and advantages of securing a seat there, but what didn't go down well with the parents was the fact that hardly any "aspirational" school participated at the expo.

Atul Wadhwa, a parent from Sushant Lok, said, "I came here to interact with the top schools such as Scottish High, Delhi Public School, The Shri Ram School or The Heritage School, but none of them participated."

Another parent Nitesh Goel, a resident of Sector 10A, said, "Though it was good to come across so many schools under one roof and I got to know about some new ones that seemed worth exploring, but there was no new good school to speak of."

Known as 'Premier Schools Exhibition', it managed to draw some reputable schools such as Pathways World School, DPS International, Kunskapsskolan and Presidium, but the visitors called the exhibition as an opportunity to interact with the new schools only.

Even the academics agreed. Savinder Kaur Rooprai, headmistress of Salwan Public School that didn't participate in any of the two annual school exhibitions, said, "The exhibition culture

was popular when all the schools that are now reputable, were trying to gain popularity and the new residents were not aware of their reputation. But now, most people know which ones are good schools and which ones are not."

Sudha Goel, principal of Scottish High International School, said, "We stopped going to the exhibitions long ago as most people already know about our school."

However, the organizers are still optimistic. "On the day one, we received a footfall in the range of 4,500 to 5,000 and over 40 schools participated, which is as per our expectation," said Ritesh Jaiswal, organizer of Premier Schools Exhibition.
